The Village Store

The grocery store began operating shortly after the West Apartments opened in 1976, and became a project of the Service League in January 2003. The Store's location has changed several times over the years and is now located at the intersection of the Oaks and Tower building, on third floor. Resident managers and volunteers order and unpack the groceries, do some of the shopping, price, wash and package produce, face the shelves, check out customers, and assist residents with their shopping.

Sales exceed $100,000 though proceeds are very low, as service to residents is the main reason for the Store's exsistance.
We stock hundreds of items ranging from All-Bran cereal to Zest soap!
Sentry Foods of Hilldale is our primary supplier
There is no price mark-up; we charge the same prices as Sentry

Frozen meals, juices, dairy, paper products, greeting cards, fresh cinnamon rolls, snacks, baking goods, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and so much more!

Oakwood is a Lutheran church-sponsored organization whose mission is to serve older persons through loving, caring Christian communities, responding to their physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs, and to encourage a sense of independence, individuality, dignity and worth throughout life.
