Oakwood Service League
The Service League was formed in 1952 as the Oakwood Auxiliary to provide volunteer support for the residents of Oakwood. As Oakwood struggled and grew, the Auxiliary, which became the Service League in 1962, played a vital role. Members canned food, made curtains, and when necessary, stoked the furnace in the middle of the night. Most importantly, members of the Service League brought compassionate attention to people who needed care.
The purpose of the Oakwood Service League is to support the mission of Oakwood through services that enhance the quality of life for residents.
The Oakwood Service League continues to be an essential component of the Oakwood community, bringing personal attention to the residents. The tasks may have changed since 1952, but the organization remains energetically committed to the pursuit of the mission of Oakwood.
Nearly 500 members participate in a wide variety of activities. The Oakleaf Coffee/Gift Shoppe, Terrace Tea Room, Village Store, and Village Mercantile are open throughout the year. Members tend gardens during the summer and prepare for weekly worship services in Resurrection Chapel. The funds raised by the Oakwood Service League fund projects that enhance the pleasure and comfort of residents beyond what can be done through Oakwood's operating budget.
