Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a waiting list, and if so how long?
Since Oakwood operates several levels of care on two campuses, its best to speak with a marketing and admissions repesentative directly so we can provide you with a specifc answer. In general, Oakwood has immediate availablility for independent living apartments at Oakwood Village East and Oakwood Village West. There is typically a wait for assisted living and memory care services.
Can I bring my pets?
Independent living residents are allowed small pets; one dog (below the knee/under twenty pounds) or two cats. Assisted living and the skilled nursing home residents can not keep pets in their rooms, but pets are welcome to visit.

Does Oakwood have options for seniors with lower incomes?
As a faith-based organization, Oakwood strives to serve a broad economic spectrum of older adults. Our goal is to provide the highest possible quality of services at the lowest possible cost. Oakwood Village West has 30 apartments designated for HUD recipients; however the wait list for these units is quite substantial. For more information about our HUD Program, please contact Hannah Halverson at (608) 230-4266.
Do you have to be a member of a Lutheran Church to live at Oakwood?
Oakwood is supported by 37 Lutheran congregations in the Madison area, but our residents come from a variety of faith backgrounds. The Lutheran church drives our mission and care philosophies, but our community is open to all. Oakwood's Pastoral Care Department proudly serves and supports all faiths. Can I bring my car?
Underground, heated parking spaces are available at Oakwood. We also offer bus service to area grocery stores, banks, convenience stores and shopping centers.
I like to cook my own meals. Am I required to pay for dining services?
Residents are allotted $200 per month they can spend on campus services and amenities. While a significant portion will likely be spent on meals, we have designed our resident services plan to allow for individual preferences. The $200 can be used for lunch, dinner, housekeeping and personal maintenance services (and also salon/barbershop services at Oakwood Village West) throughout the month. This flexible system means you are not required to pay for a daily meal, rather you are given the opportunity to use the services that best meet your specific needs.
